Our Strategy

According to Oxfam Hong Kong’s latest poverty report, two major issues stand out in the city: the widening wealth gap and the disproportionate impact on elderly individuals. In 2024, the poverty rate reached 20.2%, with over 1.39 million people living in poverty. The poorest households earned 81.9 times less than the richest, and more than 580,000 elderly individuals were living below the poverty line.

This vast wealth gap intensifies social inequality by restricting low-income groups’ access to quality education, healthcare, and affordable housing. Economic disparity also fuels social fragmentation, as marginalized communities often experience heightened social tensions and weakened community cohesion. Furthermore, limited upward mobility discourages younger generations, perpetuating cycles of poverty and deepening economic divides.

COLLABORATE

We seek to avoid service duplication and believe in pooling resources for depth of impact. Our mission is to partner with local nonprofits, social service welfare centres, or church organisations. By partnering with on-the-ground workers, Hope of the City is able to ensure that the families we are serving have consistent support networks.

CONNECT

We inspire and equip volunteers to serve in partner programs, offering immersive experiences to understand Hong Kong’s poverty. We provide ongoing support, care events, and leadership growth opportunities. With diverse short- and long-term roles, we aim to foster lasting commitment for deeper connections and greater impact between the resourced and the deprived.

CARE

At Hope of the City, relationships are central with beneficiaries, volunteers, and NGO partners. We believe that as we journey alongside each person, it builds sustainable relationship where lasting transformation is more likely to happen. We stop for the one, and see each person with dignity, value and compassion, fostering lasting transformation.

The growth of our services is dependent on the efforts of volunteers. Connect with us so that we can support more individuals facing poverty!
